We've ordered a new Atwood ehm6. It should show up early next week. It looks VERY tight to get the old one out. The Vacuum pump for the Vacu flush system sits on top of it. We'll remove that, but the port engine riser and manifold is VERY close. Anyone know if we'll be able to get the old water heater out without ripping apart the engine?

Thanks!

V-Drives?

I've been told that the riser has to come out to replace mine... sounds very similar.

Is your old one rusted out or just not heating? Any chance fixing it with an element?

The heat exchanger developed a leak. We've by passed that for now, but would like to use that feature, so we're replacing the unit.

The original Sea Ray setup for the vacuum generator/hot water heater leaves a lot to be desired, to say the least. They used the hot water heater not only as a mount for the vacuum generator, but also as a step to get into the engine room. They also did not use a tempering valve on the hot water heater discharge, which precludes the use of engine coolant to heat the water (Engine coolant drives the water temperature too high, and that can result in a scalding situation if a tempering valve is not installed.) So, bottom line, the hot water heater is stressed every time someone steps on it, and if you hook up the engine coolant to the heat exchanger, someone may get burned. I have posted a considerable amount of information concerning improvements to the hot water heater system in a 340 DA on my blog (See below).
I would be more than happy to provide additional details, if you wish to improve and upgrade your existing system.

Great...

Thank though! I'll be reading your blog!

I replace the hot water heater in our 340DA last year. It was no problem removing the heater without pulling the risers. It just take a little of manipulating. Overall, a pretty easy job.

Just a hint ... when we did ors we replaced it with a 10 gal. ... it fits nicely in there and gives you more warm water ...

Thanks for the good news! It'll be a project after this coming weekend. We're heading out for the weekend!!

OK, my husband and a friend replaced the hot water heater on Saturday. Wow, it was a tight fit! It's in and works though!
