Replacing corroded trailer crossmember

Green grass, flip flops, bare feet--the whole nine yards of spring here. The high was 85 yesterday I kid you not.

Nice work! Soon I'll be posting my own "Trailer renovation"....you have nothing on me! Yet I'm jealous of your 4-1/2hr. job. I've spent basically the entire winter season re-habbing mine. :smt089

You have my sympathy Gunn. If I learned anything for next time it is to do the repairs where I have access to electricity, to use an angle grinder to remove bolts, and if replacing a crossmember, to have a method on hand for pushing the two sides of the trailer apart to allow it to fit in between. Also to make sure all the parts I ordered online were all in my hands with enough lead time to reorder the ones the seller forgot to include if necessary.

Hey folks newb here but trying to contribute as well while I take alot of your input. I don't know if this is pre-painted or treated but slathering on some POR15 now that you're done Beer might be helpful. I've used it to restore a car, paint the chassis, exhaust and manifold and it does work. Heat resistant, locks out rust and even locks it out in existing rusty spots.... i.e. some of your existing joints/connections now. Might be worth it to get ahead of anything else that's stable but starting to corrode and/or seal up the new. Stuff is little know and amazing. Always wondered about it for outdrive. Good post and project too, well done. I have to tackle that "replace the bunks" at my hillbilly launch ramp soon. Kinda like working on the car at Autozone that you see all the derelicts do.

Thanks Stephen (I'm guessing), I'll check out POR15. I bought a couple of cans of cold galvanizing spray and used it liberally on the parts of the trailer I wasn't replacing outright.
