Replacing Cockpit Sink

Well, you are all giving me second thoughts. I may attempt this after all. If not, I'll live with what I have.

When I post pictures, you will be converted back to doing it!

As long as you're careful and don't let frustration get the better of you, the worst thing that is going to happen is that you bugger up the existing caulking. Which can easily be fixed with a new bead.

The worst thing that can happen is you pull up gel coat....trust me!

I mean that if you're careful and take your time and don't go too fast. Double checking that all the sealant is "clear", etc. If you go slow enough (making sure all the sealant is unattached), the sink should pretty much, all of sudden, just "be loose" and pull right out without any resistance at all.

But what often happens is (including me, sometimes) we sometimes rush it and use the leverage of the sink to pull it away from the caulking. That "can" be OK, but if there was any type of void or weak bond between the gelcoat and the fiberglass, then (even with only a little pressure) it's going to do exactly what happened to you.

Well, here is a picture of the sink and faucet with repaired gel coat. This was prior to removing excess adhesive sealant from around the flange. I also took a couple of pictures of the new speakers with custom beauty rings made by Dale.

That definitely looks nice than the white sink. One of the things I don't like about my white sink is it just never looks clean. Any little scratches it gets are really hard to get clean. I don't know if it's just embedded dirt, or just a shadowline, but it makes it look bad.

I agree! I would constantly clean the damn thing and it never looked the way I expect it to look.

Well, that does look damn sharp. I have the same faucet, too, so now I really reconsidering my decision! Great job, Ken!

Did you hear that, 280? You're getting a Bryan Sink!

(Ken, that really does look good - you might be starting a trend here)
Thanks, it was really a simple upgrade if not for the gel coat issue. The bottom line is the Admiral is very happy with it!

Hello everyone. Does anyone have the ordering info for a stainless sink for the cockpit of a 2003 340? Searched some threads but couldn't find the 340 info.
Thanks in advance.

Hello again. So I found some posts from a 2002 340 refit. They suggested a sink from Scandvik or Defender. The dimensions for that sink are
  • Outside Flange Dimensions 13 1/4in x 10 1/2in. I measured the outside flange on my 03 340 as 171/2 x 10 1/2. Any suggestions?
