Replacing batteries in the 88' Laguna 23

They are DEEP in the bilge on both starboard and port sides. The access down there is way too small to fit into, how does one go about doing this? I know if I sit on the deck and slink my way into there I will be stuck no doubt. Why is this such a difficult task, anyone have any easier resolutions?

Mine are in a different location. My boat is a different year. However, if you are talking way back by the transom, on my boat I remove the bait station sink. It gives me more room thru the access hatch.
