I would like to upgrade my speakers this year. I'm a little OCD so I want complete grills (preferably white), and I need them to fit the existing openings. I don't think the speaker under each helms will be a problem but the speakers that are mounted on the sides with the upholstered vinyl might cause some problems. I have attached a picture to show the speaker I'm talking about.

Any suggestions for speakers that might meet my requirements?

I replaced my factory Clarions with Infinity Kappas. Fit right in. had to re-drill 2 holes, but that was minor.

I went with 6.5" MX650 JL Audio, the best sounding speaker I have heard outside. Direct replacement, easy install. I have 6 in the cockpit and 2 10" JL subs. I love them.

I went to the boat and pulled a speaker. The set up was a little different than I thought. The vinyl does not go behind the speaker but is trimmed up around the speaker approximately 1/8" - 1/4" away.

The speakers are the Panasonics EASA16PX86A1 with the 160 max manufactured by Matsu****a Electronic Components Corporation of America (Made in the USA).

Here are some of the measurements:
Cut out hole: 5.5"
Hole to hole screw distance: 4 5/16"
Speaker grill cover is 7.5" wide

Yeah, most 6.5 should fit, but not all. Most 6.5 surround and trim is about an inch wide. So the basket should go right in. On some occasions it may be nessesary to file the opening a bit but nothing a rat tail file cant fix. Just fold the vinyl back file and fold the vinyl back around - caution do not cut or try to drill through the vinyl, cut it first or move it out of the way. The material will wrap around the bit and tear. But the 6.5 should go no problem. Its not a big job.:smt001

I think I'm settling in on the Rockford Fosgate M162C as I think they will be a good fit and meet my matching criteria. Does anyone have these?
