anyone replace the polk/momo speakers? i'm looking to buy a uses sr and the speakers are shot. wanted to price out replacements and thinking new polks would just drop in but figured i'd ask if others had experience. the boat has separates (6.5 inch speaker and 1" tweeter) and sub (10")

thanks all

JL Audio should be a direct fit. You can get the needed opening dimensions on their website.

Momo was really good stuff. If you want to stay Polk, look at the MM line. The JL audio M series stuff is top shelf, and should drop right in as well.

I just went through this on my 38 Dancer. The speakers are still fine, but two of the flush mounting cups for the tweeters started to crack.

The factory installed Polk Momo component speakers have a 6.75 inch woofer and a 1 inch tweeter with a tweeter cutout of 2.1 inches. The JL's and new Polk MM's are NOT direct replacements. The problem is the new Polk MM's have both a smaller woofer and tweeter cutout. The 7" JL's of course have a larger woofer so you would need to enlarge the cutout...depending on the boat, no a big problem. However, they also have a smaller tweeter.

After an exhaustive search, I was able to find some flush mount component tweeters with the correct cutout size and replaced all four cockpit tweeters.

I hope this helps!

I replaced the Momo component speakers on my 2004 300DA with the Polk MM6501. As mentioned the midrange speakers were slightly smaller. I ended up just reusing the existing Momo grills and cutting notches (with just a utility knife) where the screws would line up with the speaker edge. Then I just essentially clamped the new speakers in place by screwing in the Momo cover overtop it. For the tweeters I was able to flush mount them through the existing holes using the back mount bracket that was holding the old tweeter in place.

FYI, the Polk MM are my favorite speakers. I put them on my current boat as well. I am one of the few on here that doesn't worship the JL product line

What brand of tweeters did you find for your boat. I am in the middle of the same project.
Thanks in advance
