Replacement engine turned around to work with a V-drive?

Ya, I had it explained to me. The rear of the motor is still left hand turning so no issues with transmission. I spoke with a guy who has a 380 and said the same thing happened to him. He had to replace a 454 and couldn't find one during COVID. So the same mechanic did his work and put in a 496. Says he can't tell the difference, except that the newer bigger engine is more fuel efficient. He watched them install it and said it mated with mounts and transmission easily. idle and slow speed no difference. Only over around 18 knots is there a slight difference in engine sync, which he says equates to a fraction of an inch difference in throttle position to maintain the engine sync needle in the middle. Hardly even notices anymore after putting 200 hours on the boat since the swap out.

Still not a complete engine. ECM may be hard to find. Other bits too. We have decided to get the 8.1L. We are going to take advantage of insurance company generosity. May get the stbd one changed next year. Will have two new engines in it then, and resale value should reflect that.
