I'm going to be in need of a replacement depth sounder gauge. The current Lowrance (i think its a 3500) unit (depth only) has some LCD segments that are going light and it makes it hard to read. It does have a through-hull transducer, and I'm curious if I can reuse the transducer, and replace only the display.

It is a 2 1/8" display an I would also like to mount the replacement in the same hole in the console.

Any ideas or recommendations? Can I reuse the transducer on another display/gauge?

The boat is a 99' 240DA.

Thanks,

Eric

Problem is that the Lowrance 3500 uses a 192khz transducer. Most modern sounders use 50/200khz. I had the same problem as you and eventually found an original replacement gauge. They appear on eBay from time to time.

I had a similar problem. I could not find a way to seperate the wire and the head unit on the stupid $69 system. I ended up replacing the ducer and head unit. You can buy them as a pair for $99.

The real trick is finding "merely" a LCD display, and not a full blown fishfinder for $129.

I failed. I bought a fancy transducer, and a fancy chartplotter which can read the transducer signal.

lowrance 3500 is no longer being manufactured and if you can find somewhere one you will save time not replacing transducer
if not - transducer will need to be replaced and is not recommended to splice transducer wire:(

I had a similar problem on a previous boat and just sent the unit back to Lowrance they sent it back repaired pretty quickly and it was under $50. The 3500 disconnects from the transducer cable and the whole process of removal and reinstall shouldn't take very long. They even included a white and a black bezel which I think I still have if yours is faded.

Cool!

Thanks, Dan. I will call them and see if they can perform a repair on the unit. I'll just take it out before I store it this year and put it back in place in the Spring.
