Any body purchase a replacement top from :smt100 Great Lakes Boat Top.Looking at a new one while the sale is still on .Yes I am looking at black canvas but we are under a cover roof. 20percent off and free shipping.

Newbie, please go into some detail. My wife says we need to replace the canvas. The side panels on our 1997 Sundancer have shrunk. (It has a camper back.) The Velcro is shot. The top is in good shape. I'd like to consider replacing just the side panels. However, THE ADMIRAL wants a complete replacement. Our situa tion is further complicated. I don't see us doing the install. What do you think I need to budget for Great Lakes? How much for a local installer? Other considerations? Thanks. Jim

Ok, basically to make it easy, Great Lakes is the OE supplier of canvas to many boats. The canvas you would buy from them is made from the original patterns so it fits exactly like the old canvas being replaced.

When I bought mine, I had never before done any type of canvas work at all. I replaced both tops, aft curtain, and added a cockpit cover that I didn't have previously. The cockpit cover was the hardest to do because I had to add new male snaps around the base of the windshield frame but I wouldn't call it hard though. I bought a leather punch from a local tack store (horse supplies) to make the hole in the new canvas for the snaps, and the snap installing pliers from Great Lakes. There are better pliers out there but this one worked great for 1/2 the price. The day I headed down to start the install, my wife was called in to work so I did it all completely by myself in about a half a day. The whole job is much easier than you would think, so I couldn't see why you should pay anyone to do the install for you. If you did, my guess would be to budget in around 800-1000 for a shop to do a complete install. I had a local shop make the new front strataglass curtains for me so I could put u-zips in them and to have something better than the stock eisenglass.

I just re-read your post and see you have a camper package. You will need to have a local shop make a new top, rear panel and side panels for it since GL does not make them. Everything else you can get from GL for a whole lot cheaper than having made locally, especially since they are offering 20 or 25% off. Since you would need someone local to do the camper canvas, you could probably get them to do the install of everything for a better price if your not comfortable with doing it yourself. Hope it helps.

Dumb question, does the canvas purchase include the isinglass? Or do you have to install that yourself?

Dave's canvas looks great, like the rest of his boat. Dave, keep the tan canvas, spend the $$$ saved on gas this spring!

The 20% off and free shipping ends 12/31. It was 25% off up untill 11/20.

Nice picture!
