I am planning to remove the old TV/VCR that is above the refrigerator on my 1997 400 DA. I am wondering what to put in its place. The thought of a teak wine rack or some sort storage area comes to mind but I am not sure how to go about it. Has anyone taken on such a project? How did it turn out? :smt100

Funny - I was just considering that yesterday. I've wanted to put a wine fridge in there, but they're either too tall or too wide, and then there's the whole ventilation issue.

I guess I'll have to settle for a rack, but I don't have an image of it...

Shadow9999 replaced his TV with a wine rack on his 2000 41DA that came out real nice. He had a custom door made and it was a good match. I tried searching for the thread but, this crap a$$ search function said he had NO POSTS!!!! That needs to be fixed!! You could try PMing him for pics, his name is Robert. Good Luck!!

Here is the post that Robert (Shadow9999) made....

Keep in mind, however, that in Robert's case, the TV was moved accross the salon to a completely different location above his sette. Some folks replace the tube TV with a flat screen TV and locate the new TV in the same basic area over the Fridge.

Dom,
How did you find that thread? BTW, the impression I got from the OP is that he was doing the same thing as Robert, that's why I thought of that thread.

Todd:

I know Robert doesn't post much....he's more of the strong silent type....a lurker so to speak....So I just went to advanced search and put in his name with no other criteria. It came up with all posts STARTED by Shadow9999. Robert only started a few threads.

I hear that he breaks out of his quiet mode when he's up on stage over the weekend..... ;)

Stepping onto soap box:

MY beef with the search function the way it is now is that it will only return threads STARTED by the username you search on....regardless of other criteria. So, had Robert not STARTED that thread and only responded to a thread with the information, I would not have been able to find the post.

For example....We ALL know that fwebster has posted many times with respect to Caterpillar motors. However, Frank has only STARTED a few threads in that regard. If you were to search fwebster with keyword Caterpillar, looking for something specific you know he responded to, you wouldn't be able to locate the thread. At least I haven't been able to figure it out.....I hope the system admin is reading this.....

Stepping off of soap box.

The consensus seems to be a wine rack. Now I just have to figure how to build something that doesn’t look like a high school wood shop project. I have been searching boat builder sights trying to come up with some glimmer of an idea which might coincide with my fabrication skills. Maybe Teak Isle Fabricators will have something that can be retrofitted. For the time being I am pretty much stumped. Please let me know if anyone has wine rack inspiration.
Thanks
Ron

If my pics are still up we have the same boat. I removed our old tube TV and fabricated a door with factory style latch. I used the old wood panel from the front of the fridge to cover it and it was a perfect match. I wanted to put some type of basket inside for simple storage. The wine rack is a cool idea. There is a TON of room up there once the TV is removed. And you have a 110v outlet!
For the new TV I mounted a 32" to the starboard bulkhead. Already want to replace it with an LED for a slimmer appearance.
I replaced the wood panels on the fridge with aluminum covered in clear lexan to simulate stainless steel.
Search for TV cabinet modification. Something like that was the title of my post.

Just got off the phone with the spousal unit. She came up with a functional idea for the TV space. Fit a convection oven or some sort of closed cooking devise. Should be able to find a 110 volt unit that fits the space; then dress it out with a little teak. Least its an option. Food for thought.

Remember, if you install convection you must have a vent to outside air!

I installed a 32 inch LCD TV/DVD on the forward salon bulk head. That takes care of my video requirements. Venting any sort of cooking apparatus for that space will be a challenge. My goal is to have whatever I install to look as good as what Skuza came up with.
