OldSkool recently started a thread about costs for the year. Certainly those can have a wide spread just depending on items such as do you count depreciation or not, are you slipped or trailered, large or small, financed or owned outright, gas or diesel, single or twin engine, etc.?

Thought I would start a thread just on repair items for the year. Here’s what I had on my ’05 340 (fresh water, covered slip):

• 35 hours of engine use, 28 hours of genny use so far this year
o Total on boat: 254 hours (genny 138 hours)
• Battery charger failure (replaced under warranty)
• Anchor windlass solenoid failure
• Galley/Head Vent Fan failure
• Genny impeller failure (22 months and 38 hours)
o I’m moving this item from a bi-annual change to an annual change schedule
• Replaced transom/tab zinc anodes with magnesium anodes
• Replaced black water tank negative pressure relief valve
• 100 hour/Annual service including main impeller changes scheduled for November

Only had to replace my battery charger....after she was in the water for the summer. This was our first year with shore power....nice to have AC at the dock, Mike.

So far this year:
Genset zinc replaced
150 blisters repaired and bottom painted
Port and stbd rudder logs replaced
Both rudder shafts replaced due to crevice coorision.
Air Cond and Waste tank thru hulls replaced
Stbd rudder cracks repaired
GPS sensor replaced
Windlass replaced
port engine impeller replaced
port fuel sending unit replaced
Port and Stbd fuel tank selector valves replaced
A/C pump replaced
A/C rear circuit board repaired

...........and only 2 1/2 months to go

Haul out and paint bottom and new zincs. Do this every year. Skipped one year and lost almost 6 knots on top speed. May try a diver next spring. Any one have good results using a diver to clean bottom?
Two oil changes as we put on 210 hours on the 454s. Engines have 1970 hours on them. Use about 1/2 quart of oil between changes.
Change oil in transmissions. Only once at end of season. Think it is a waste of time but is cheep so I do it. Oil is always clean.
New aft shower level switch. It was replace last year also. The first switch stopped working, the last one shorted out inside. Water got in.
New bildge blower
Wax some may not concider this maintenance but it is more work than changing the oil. I need a light electric polisher. Any one know where to get one?

>Haul, pressure wash, check bottom and running gear
>Replace cockpit icemaker (just because we couldn't find a replacement compressor)
>New seawater impellers on mains and generator

135 hours so far and we are just getting to the fall cruising season.....probably end up with 155-160 this season; 1200+ total time on mains, 1425 on the generator.

Maintenance doesn't count, but I do a lot of it. Gotta love the old 450DA's with mechanical engines.

I have put about 70 hours on during our short summer. I have only had to replace the drive and shift cable bellows. One week till haul out.

Just bought the boat this year so there were a couple of improvements.
Install 100 whatt inverter / charger $250
Install davits for dingy on swim paltform $10 (I had a spare set and kept the quick release plates off the old boat)

Repairs
replace pressure relief valve on Hot water tank $15
replaced the rear bimini supports $100 (materials only I made them instead of paying $80 each for 4 of them)
Replace light bulb in head $1.50
replaced boot on bimini since it was missing $20 (again materials only my wife made it)

Other than that just the mantainence and winterizing costs of about $150

- New shafts, cutlass bearings, couplers
- new raw water impellers - 3 seasons, about 110 hours. Took a set but no cracked or missing vanes
- short haul to clean crud on the bottom

Ask me next year how pulling the heads on the stbd engine went :smt089

I had to replace my hydraulic steering ram... ($2K)
Few drawers and a few doors broke due to rough weather in the Atlantic one day...

New Makrolon enclosure and canvas... ($7K)
New monitor on bridge PC ($5K)
New AIS and various electronics additions ($3K)

Fuel, slip, insurance, bottom work, polishing, etc... I'm guessing it was a $60K year...

Carter: Starboard engine right head was off but not reworked before the 2010 season. Boat is running great but lower compression in the middle cylinders discovered on routine compression check. ALso trace amts of coolant in oil samples. Before catastrophe, I need to get in there and see if the block is ok and if it is, have the heads reconditioned and put it all back together.

Start soaking the manifold bolts now with PC Blaster!!

replaced magnesium anodes on shafts and tabs
oil change
Impellars including genni
stbd fuel pump (that was a pain to access on bottom of engine)
upgraded to new stereo including XM receiver on arch and helm remote.

All in all, not bad as I do most work, but I need to bottom paint for next year....maybe in the spring:grin:

It is absolutely insane the amount of work I have had to have done on a boat that is in it's 5th season, maintained with an open checkbook per SR/Merc specs, and has about 250hrs. I could write a book. And that doesn't count the "new boat" work orders. Luckily so far 80% covered by warranty's. (Standard and extended) Yes...get the extended warranty's!!

Well this is fun. Since the purchase on September 26:

4 hours on engines
0 hours on generator
Replaced all mercathode parts (system wasn't working at all)
Replaced both sets of zincs
Repainted drives
Repaired spot light in-line fuse holder
Replaced shorted sump pump in shower sump
Replaced defective wet bar spray nozzle
Full compound/wax on all gelcoat
Replaced IAC vent filters

More to come this month....

New props ($4K)
New A/C unit ($1800)
New GPS ($400)
New E80 MFD ($1750)
New 4' open array scanner ($2k)
New cockpit upholstery ($500 mat'l only - mother in law does boat interiors for a living!)
Mechanic bill to remove aftercooler and turbo to repair coolant leak, replace various hoses and replace coolant ($1600)

I don't count maintenance either but all zincs, fluids, filters and impellors were changed this year also. As usual, I spent a ton of money this season and now the boat's for sale...

Before the season I sent the props out to add an inch of pitch-$700
Replaced the transmission coolers, just because it was in salt for the first 5 years and I have no idea how the PO dealt with that, (did the manifolds last year) and I would be able to sleep better at night-$475
After that it was just my routine maintenance schedule, but the admiral spent a couple paychecks on new pillows, table cloths, knick-knacks and other assorted stuff that falls off of things in rough seas, does that count?
85 hours this year, 810 miles on the trip log, one 10 day trip to the other end of the Lake, it was a good year for us.
We're done, we hauled it on the first, when it was 80 degrees, hated to do that, but I'm glad I did it. This weekend it's going to be 50 mph gusts and raining. Marina is closed the 15th.
