The motors are available from Imtra, but are not cheap. So, when mine started slowing down and finally quit working a month or two ago, I removed it, disassembled it, and cleaned the brushes and commutator, reassembled, and tried it on the work bench using battery jumper cables and a 12 volt battery. It appeared to be working normally. So I bolted it back in the anchor locker, and it's been working fine ever since.

As I was trying to take the back off the motor to do the cleaning, I found that the long bolts that go all the way through the motor to the front and hold the back and front on were too rusted to unthread and had to be cut. When reassembling, I replaced these with two pieces of stainless all thread and four stainless nuts. Because the back nuts stuck out further (the originals had flat heads made onto the bolts), I had a stainless extended cap made to replace the original cap. The new cap could not be made to fit perfectly like the original, so I caulked all the joints on the cap to keep water out. I also caulked the front joints for good measure. Not pretty, but the motor is hidden, and hopefully good for another 14 years. I figure I probably saved $1000 or more vs. buying a new motor.
