So I had my boat hauled for the storm. Same boat yard where I store the boat every winter. They are a Sea Ray dealer and I have always had good experience with them.

There is drive oil in the bilge and leaking out the garboard drain, and the mechanic tells me there is a fitting assembly on the transom that connects the drive to the drive oil monitor bottle, and the assembly is what is causing the leak and needs to be replaced. This makes some sense to me, since I have had some oil in my bilge in the past but could not figure out where it was coming from.

What I want to check on, is that the mechanic tells me the part costs $6 but in order to get to it to replace it he has to do 6 hours of labor to pull the drive, bell housing, and exhaust riser manifold, then put it all back together.

Has anyone had this same thing happen to them? Seems like a poor design to me.

Thanks for your help.

Had the same thing happen on my old 2002 300 da he right mine was 8 years old when I had to do it to the port now the new Owner has to do the starbAord good luck

I feel your pain man... had a $30 seal in my vdrive start leaking and the total bill was $1200 with the labor... sorry I can't help your exact problem but just remeber we would have all been better off to buy a case of our favorite beverage and take a thousand bucks and site at the end of a dock and drink, and dollar by dollar throw our money into the water...
