Repair or replace boot stripe

can be slowly curved up towards the bow

Rum, is that what you mean? To follow the chine all the way to the bow?

I do the whole thing in one, smooth motion. I start at the stern and wrap the tape partially around onto the transom. I apply some duct tape to help hold it in place. Then I walk forward, unrolling the tape while at the same time keeping it away from the boat at this time. Once I get the whole thing unrolled to the length of the boat (or at least to a good stopping point), I keep a little tension on the stripe and gradually walk towards the boat to allow the stripe to stick, while at the same time looking back over the stripe and adjusting the height as I go... but trying to keep any adjustments smooth and controlled to avoid and sharp changes in "altitude" as they will easily be seen.

Yep, sorry

I ran my new two colored tape all the way up to the bow and yes it upswept along the chine line a few feet back from the bow. In addition I updated my black bottom paint up to the curved chine line and all the way to the front on both sides. This somewhat gives the illusion that the boat is moving when sitting still in the water.
I also mixed some graphite in with my new bottom paint to help the hull be more slippery, not sure if this option will help or not but in theory if drag is reduced speed should improve if all else stays the same. Any one else tried graphite in their bottom paint?

I do not want to seem like I am hijacking a good thread so I started a new one in Gen Maint about graphite, thx

We just did the boot stripe to my boat this past year. Make sure you have zero wind when walking out the tape or it gets real difficult to get a straight line

I highly recommend the blue guide tape method that someone mentioned earlier. The factory tape is very straight and it's difficult to duplicate that straightness so why bother starting over. Also if the new tape is a little to warm when applying it you may have a problem with it stretching if you're trying to lay down a long length. When it stretches it looses some if its width then you have a real mess. If you use the guide tape you can apply the new stripe in smaller and more manageable lengths without it getting wavy. Mark

I agree that the blue tape method seems a lot more idiot-proof when you're dealing with replacing a stripe that is already in place.
