Just wanting to get some feedback on what you all deem a reasonable cost range would be.

I dropped our new to us boat that we took in as a trade 3 seasons ago.

After inspection work needed:

Engine is Merc 260 w/Alpha 1 outdrive

Power wash hull, sundeck and swim platform
Pull and soak/clean carb (block was new 4 years ago per previous owner)
Compression test block (test passed!)
Full tune up kit (they got the engine before they started replacing parts)
Pump out and clean fuel tank (stale fuel from no use in 4 seasons) They used a small shop tank to test engine
Pull outdrive and full replacement kit of bellows and all rubber/gaskets from drive thru hull to engine (visible rot)
Steering ended up seized so also replacing steering cable

I'm sure there are some other small items that I'm not thinking of.

Given the above......

How dented should my wallet be?

So you say "visible rot" near the outdrive? If you've potentially got a rotten transom the dollars will start adding up quite quickly...

Sorry the bellows had visible dry rot so we decided to just replace all the rubber and gaskets at the same time.

So far transom and stringers are all dry.

'Can't give you estimate as I don't know current shop labor costs, but just a suggestion; while replacing the bellows, go ahead and install a new shift cable as it has to come out anyway. I just went through bellows replacement on the twins. Figure about 3-4 hours for that, plus carb, tank, steering cable... Break Out Another Thousand!

Thanks for the input. I’ll have to ask about the shifter cable

Depends on location. I dont remember the repair but one boat owner on here in Texas i think was being quoted a repair price around 3 to 4k that we can get done in MD for $1500. I recall telling him tow it here.

Damn! Really?:(

I was thinking $1500 on high side. Dang. I better rethink offers on the classics I’m shopping.

Well around here the charge $125/hr.

Powerwash hull and top side, probably run 2 hrs -- $250.
Pull the carb and compression test -- Probe another 2 hours -- $250
Full tune up -- I think they get $500 on a V8, plus parts.
Pump out fuel -- they going to charge for this one -- a few hrs to pump and disposal fees -- probaby $500 plus.
Clean fuel tank -- proably another 2-3 hours -- say $300.
Pull the outdrive and replace everything -- probalby $700 plus parts.
Steering cable -- 2 hrs -- $250 plus parts.
Adding it up your at $2750 plus parts and then the add on shop fees (rags, disposal, etc.)

I think I’ll need to start researching shop prices. This one ended up about $250-$300 per hr.

There were a few things they threw in for free…

But it’s definitely gonna be a bit before any new upholstery gets completed.

Picked up the boat today and there’s a solid page and a half of line items that were completed.

Unexpectedly lost the factory steering wheel as the entire unit needed to be replaced. The new unit has a round mount and the old factory one was square…

Now to figure out how to get the bow seat backs temporarily remounted for the rest of this season

I would agree with 3k - 5k. That’s what I would expect to pay at my shop in Milwaukee.

Ended up at $5,900.00. I’ll have to update with parts that were replaced. Parts tab alone was around $3k
