I have a 1997 330 Sundancer and was wondering if anyone has painted their boat to freshen it up. And, any idea how much it would cost. Or, should I just replace/upgrade.

While I have no experience with painting a boat I would do it only as a LAST resort. The durability of gelcoat-no flaking or ease of chipping is what would make me wanna try and restore the original finish first.

Or you could just give the old girl to me and buy a new boat.LOl

Don't try to repaint it, or have someone do it. It's gelcoat and very think and has lots of potential to be brought back to life. Have you had it professionally compounded and waxed? if so the next step is to have it wet sanded.

I agree - it's best to have a pro take a whack at bringing it back to life before you paint. Painting will be very expensive, although with a product such as Awl Grip (multi-step, epoxy-based) you will end up with a superior finish - better than gel could ever be. It's also very durable.

Thanks everyone. I've not had a professional look at it. It's everything above the rub rail that needs a good shine. I'll start with products from West Marine and see where that takes me.

Try Presta products, they are fantastic. Do a search here to see a thread where I discovered the product. Easy to use and not too expensive but works great! If this doesn't do it you may need a wet sand job.
