The helm of my 31 y.o. 440 Aft Cabin has faded and is need of refreshing. It is largely metal, painted with a matte or flat black. I don’t know if that is original. I am thinking of sanding it down, taping off the gauges and panels, and painting of Rustoleum. Any comments or advice?

I had the yard repaint the helm of my 1986 WEr and it turned out very nice. I believe we used a Petit paint product. That boat's helm was fiberglass if memory serves. The windshield was removed and following instructions on the paint can, the new finish was applied with a paint roller that had a lot of knap to it. When dry, it looked like it was a factory finish. I'm not sure Rust Oleum is the product you should use but I am no expert when it comes to paints.

Sbw, that is a pretty boat...my wife loves the lines

The forward dash directly behind the windshield of my 1988 230 Wk. was dark blue and was showing it's age . I was thinking some thing in a oil base for durability . Went to a paint store and they sold me a semi gloss ceramic latex paint. Put it on with a sponge roller. I was surprised how well it turned out.

How well is it holding up and do you remember what color and brand you used?

Thanks. The 3200 is a great sea boat too. Goes through whatever Lake Michigan serves up in the summer. Very comfortable for two people to live on as well.

It was a few years ago ended up going with a powder blue color semi gloss it was dark blue would get really hot. Sherwood Williams is where I got the paint. No longer have the boat but it held up for the four season that I did have it.
