I was starting to get some significant corrosion on the aluminum windshield frames so I've removed the windshied from the boat and taken everything apart. I plan on blending out any pitting, media blasting to get back to a uniform surface finish and then either getting the frames anodized or powder coated. I am thinking a matte black to match the canvas would look sharp.

Looking for opinions on either of these two options, does anodizing have any advantages over powder? I want something that will be very durable and long lasting. My thinking is powder will go on much thicker and show fewer imperfections.

Thoughts?

You can prep all the metal then have it anodized before powder coating. I used to have a paint shop and that's how we did aluminum. The only other way would be to sand or sandblast then prime & spray paint. In a fresh water environment you should have long lasting results but nothing last as long as stainless steel frames.

Black my look nice but man don't touch it in the summer sun. You may want to rethink that one. JMO.
I thought about that and I’m on the fence. I don’t think I really touch the windshield frame too much at all but I’m worried that as soon as they are 3000 degrees I might quickly find out that I actually do.

I saw the chrome powder option. If I knew the shiny surface wouldn’t show every last flaw from existing corrosion I would jump all over it. Still might be a good option if I can prep the parts well enough. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'd take a shot at just sanding them. 220, 400, 600, then a few strokes with brass wool to even it out. You might even be able to use a fine, brass wire wheel.

They would end up shiny, but you could maintain them easily with metal polish.
