Renaming a boat

So I took the plunge and purchased a 2003 260 sundancer in perfect condition. However I do not like the name of the boat and was thinking of changing it but I hear it's bad luck. Wondering if other people have changed the names on their vessels and if in fact they had bad luck. :)View attachment 18040

:smt038Go for it!! I renamed a 2004 300DA I bought used out of Toms River NJ. Not one issue with that boat....unlike the brand new 2008 330DA I purchased and named for the first time!! Have fun!

No problem with re-naming. Google "boat re-naming" and find the ceremony and all the do's and don'ts. We had a big party and a great time was had by all.:smt038

I agree. I renamed our "new to us" 280 DA last year. There are many superstitious ceremony's out there so pick one that works for you. We also made a party out of it but pouring a $100 bottle champagne overboard hurt a little. We did have a good time and everything has been good so far.

It's only bad luck if you're superstitious -- renaming won't cause any bad luck

Oh Tonka I disagree! Sure as the sun rises in the east Neptune will send the Kraken to grab your boat and pull it down to the icy depths never to be seen or spoken about again!!!:grin:

OK I am a little superstitious i.e. no bananas on board while fishing as you are then guaranteed not to catch any fish!:thumbsup:

Don’t be fooled by some of the regalia of the name changing ceremony. The goddess of the ocean is not a big drinker. Only about a shot of good scotch will suffice. However don’t skimp on the caterer! These guests will feel obligated to buy when you boat them to a nice port side restaurant. Good Luck!

The procedure is to peel the old one off, attempt to buff out the discoloration, and put the new one on... If you can make a party out of it, I'm all for it!

Ive renamed a few with no problems to speak of.... and as a matter of fact, that's what I do - signs and graphics - If you take a picture of the back of the boat and send it to me, Id love to draw up the new one for you...
If you want, I can make it all and send you the vinyl letters to apply.

Whats the new name - and for interests sake, what is the old name?

Mine was "great escape" - but if you met my wife you would understand the new name!

Thanks everyone! But I am still up in the air. I like Trouble Maker! My wifes name is cynthia and I like gin & tonic. So CYN & TONIC?

I LIke Cyn & Tonic. ( Cyns the DD and Tonic speaks for himself during the Coast Guard spot check! )
I wonder if people with the Name "aquaHolic" actually do get stopped more than "Oasis" or anyother plain-jane names?

Gee i don't get it every time the CG came after me they would pull up behind me see the name look at me and tear ass the other direction it blows my mind. I usaully have my swim trunks !

So it's not always the size of the dingy rather the number of folds when deflated. :)
