I want to move to the boat number stickers to a different location but when I removed them it left a sticky residue. What would be safe to use on gelcoats to remove the mess without damaging the gelcoat?

Goo off, gasoline, charcol lighter fluid, acetone. I've used them all. All work well. Goo off is probably the safest followed by acetone.

I've had good results with a Shark Steam cleaner. No chemicals, just steam.

I use a wooden dowel cut on the bias, heat up the sticker with a hair dryer briefly and the dowel peels it off like a banana. No scratches.

3M Adhesive Remover.....or "Goof Off"

/\ agree!

I've had the same can of 3M adhesive remover for at least 6 years. It works great! I've used it on my cars when I take off emblems and dealer stickers. Matter of fact, I removed portions of the graphics on the side of my 185 a few weeks ago and removed the remaining sticky stuff with it... no issues. Just be sure to re-wax where ever you use any of these products.

I removed my stickers this past spring. I used a new small putty knife and a heat gun (hair dryer). heat the surface with the gun and the sticker will easily remove without damage to gel coat. I then used acetone to remove any glue left behind. This worked great. I then had them stencil new numbers...they look great.

Cheers.

I sent you a pm to avoid looking like I might be trying to advertise or advocate a specific product on the site...or even worse, the company I work for...please check it out.

I used adhesive remover and a terry cloth rag. It took a little rubbing, but you could not tell where the decals where when I was done. Gelcoat on Sea Rays is pretty tough.

also --you can stop by your local auto paint store, and ask for an eracer wheel--this will fit on your drill motor--and it removes the stickers fast along with the glue.then hand rub or machine rub, with heavy compound.it will not harm gel at all--about 10 bucks, and it will last a long time .

West Marine has Sticker-Off! - have used it with success.

when we bought our 32 sea ray earlier this year we had to change the name. The sign company designing our new name gave us a can of goo gone in a aresol can. It worked great. That is the first time i have heard of goo gone in aresol can but in abour 20 min and a rag i had it off and it was fairly large name.
