Hi:

I'm a new member and have a question. I have a 2003 SeaRay 320DA. This is my first winter in new England. How do you remove the batteries for the engine compartment. Do you raise the engine access, remove the batteries, and un-pin the jack screws? How do you lower the engine compartment access? How do you open it in the spring?

Thanks for the help.

Rick

I leave my batteries in and have the boat plugged in.

Rick,
My dealer who is providing heated storage for my boat this winter said they first make sure the batteries are charged and then disconnect. There is a cigarette lighter type plug that comes with your owner's manual that is plugged into the helm DC receptical and connected to a battery. This provides power to raise and lower the engine hatch. Others can advice you what to do with the batteries if you are storing the boat outside or in unheated storage but the procedure for opening and closing the engine hatch should I believe be the same.

I take them all out and connect one to a cigarette lighter with the plug provided with manuals to close the engine hatch.

Thanks for the info. I never thought about using the helm connection to "reverse" the power supply to the hatch.

I didn't see that information in the owners manual.

My boat is stored outside and the power recepticle is about 200 feet away, otherwise I would prefer to keep it plugged-in all winter.

Thanks again.
Rick

Rick,

As majority in our region, my boat is also stored on land over the winter. Even if they can place your boat 10' away form your slip 99% you wouldn't be allowed to use the shore power. This is how I hear works in most places due to the fact that you're not at the boat frequently to keep an eye on things, unlike during boating season. So, consider this being your normal routine for a long time.
