Does anyone know how to remove the Cassette Radio (from 1987) that's in the Glove Box of my '87 SeaRay Sorrento 19S ?
I can get the knobs off and nuts off but the unit won't fit out of the receptacle. Thanks for you help! -Kirk-

Do we have an award for the most obscure question asked? Just wondering, cuz if so I nominate this one...

Wow fragmag thats harsh.

I am not familiar with the boat, but I believe that with a tape deck with knobs you may need to pull it out from behind somehow. Or try to take the whole casing it is in, out.

Sorry Bannerboy, but Frag...that was funny!

The removal of a cassette radio in a 22 year old boat is definitely pretty obscure!

I agree with taking it out from behind, that seems to be the way I would think as well.

Hey at least its a cassette deck and not an 8 track. Post some pictures and I am sure someone will be able to help.

Welcome to the board:grin:

You could try finding some radio keys that insert on both sides of the head unit if its aftermarket. Usually you can bum some off any radio shop.

Oh yeah, if its after market head unit, the "can" or trim piece will be holding it in. You would have to bend the tabs behind the dashboard thats holding the radio in to get it out.

I just took the original cassette deck out of my 1997 185BR. Mine was the old school style with two holes on each side for the knobs and a small square cut in between them for the "face".

If I remember correctly then I had to remove these things in this order.

1. Volume/tuning knobs
2. First set of nuts that hold the face plate on
3. Face plate
4. Second set of nuts that hold the unit against the fiberglass
5. The metal strap that is attached to the back of the unit

After all this is done then the unit slid out from the back.

I had to remove the built in cooler to access the back of the radio. It was a huge pain to get it out and even harder to get it back in. Hopefully you'll have an easier time with it.

Good luck.

Another vote here...for taking it out the back. They'll be some kind of bracket back there to hold it up and in position.
