Remote Oil Filter Location

Our local Marinemaxx closed it's doors recently so I'm going to start doing all of the fluid changes and such. I was wondering if anyone knows where the factory installed remote oil filter is located on a 2001 sundeck 190, I can't seem to find it in any of the Sea Ray schematics available online
 
You'll want to get your the Service Manual for your boat. Also you can use your serial number of the engine at www.mercurymarine.com to find all the parts for your engine with exploded views of everything which is very handy.
 
Alright, I'm an idiot (don't tell my wife I said that). So I don;t have the remote oil filter. So, why is it so easy to find the correct part number for a remote oil filter but not for the standard block mounted filter?? What's the difference between using a marine oil filter and another quility filter like Amsoil??:smt100
 
She already knows. Ask any wife, they'll all tell you the same thing. Join the club, fella.

There's no difference in marine vs auto oil filters. There is a difference in engine oils. Use a good quality oil filter. I personally prefer Wix, but there are other good ones available, just as their are filters like Fram that I won't use. You can use any engine oil that meets NMMA FC-W rating. Here's Mercury's FAQ.

I agree with FC3, wix is an excellent filter. But, amsoil filters are very good too. I personally like to use Valvoline racing oil. Good ole straight 30 weight, you just have to let the motor warm up before you take off. Then again, you should do that no matter what oil you run.
 
I'm currently running the Amsoil EA filters and Amsoil 10W40 Marine. For the filter - just use a high quality filter - there are plenty of studies out there with cut-aways, etc. I agree with Frank - Fram filters are notoriously bad with the cardboard and glue they use internally sometimes failing and causing restrictions in the filter itself. Wix filters are really good and they also make Napa Gold filters if you have a Napa near you. In addition to the Mercruiser FAQ - here is a listing of current certified FC-W oils.
 
I also like using the K&N oil filters because of the big nut on the bottom. If you do not have a remote oil filter, the K&N makes tightening the new filter much easier.

Downloaded the service manual here and my repro dept. is printing and binding it for me...I love this site
