Well leave it to the state of NY but both of my regsitration stickers are completely faded from the sun and neither of them can be read.

First of all, did NYS not expect the stickers to be exposed to so much sun when they were making them.

Second, and most importantly, has anyone ever had this happen to them and what was involved in getting new ones?

I would rather get a root canal then have to deal with DMV but it looks like im heading down that road.

In my view I should not have to pay for replacements but I think I have a better chance of Santa Claus showing up tonight than that!!

Good Grief!!

I went to the DMV and they gave me a new set, Told them I was wetsanding the boat before polishing it & no problem.

Don't you get a new sticker every year when you renew your registration?

Oh, I hope they let you save the money this way. We have to renew every year in NJ, as you can imagine we pay registration fee every year.

My registration sticker has faded after almost 3 years in the sun. It renews in June so I'm holding out until then.

Mine also is up this year so I was contemplating rolling the dice as well.

I heard it was like $2. For a new set. Mine are below the rub rail( not totally legal) but they look new

Cheap and easy - IIRC- you just need the registration card and Drivers License for ID.
I replaced mine last year for the same problem - completely faded.
I do believe it was only $2.00.

I was in and out of DMV in office in under 20 mins - but I was flexible to chose my own time.
Lunchtimes and Thursday afternoons and end-of-month gets a little crazy sometimes.
In fact I need to make a trip there this week, hopefully the lines are short.

HUM... Not to Highjack but mine are under the rub rail too? From memory all of the boats in my area are below the rail. Is this something that is NY specific or am I doing this wrong?

Good luck with the DMV! I am with you on the root canal!

I spent 8 years on the marine patrol for the Sheriff's dept and in MI they do jot have to be above the rub rail. Just have to be in a visible location on the bow section of the boat, contrasting colors and block letters....for what it's worth...
