Dave,

This boat is a Regal 5260. I think it's 53' including the swim platform. I took this picture while I was in Hilton Head. So it's a real boat, not a prototype. I only know what's on Regal's website. Appears as though IPS is standard and it has a dedicated space for dinghy stowage (kinda nice). My photo really doesn't give you a clear shot of how tall this boat really is. The owner had just finished attatching the window canvas. He literally had to scale the windshield in order to reach the uppper attach points.

I guess I didn't recognize it but I have seen a number of articles on the 5260 and apparently it is a big hit with the Regal Crowd. Regal has already sold out the first two years of production from what I understand.

Personally, I don't care for the styling. The boat looks out of proportion to me being way too tall for it's length. But then again, I have not seen one in person so what do I know.

It does look like it is layed out nicely inside too from what I have seen in articles.

it's a very cool boat. to me it looks like the sunseeker.

Has anyone seen the new 55 sundancer? I saw one the other day, it is almost as tall as a sedan bridge...

Very tall. . .equals huge windage when docking. Hope it has for-and-aft thrusters.

I have never seen a 55DA. However, I have seen a 48DA and it is proportioned well in my opinion.

The 5260 shouldn't need thrusters as it has IPS drives with joystick control.

Uh. . . yeah. . . .. Love to see how that handles a 30kt cross wind. Bottom line is that IPS applies force at the stern (or thereabouts). .. .and the wind acts on the bow (and midships. . .and stern..). . . .it should be a fun scene. Fun, that is as long as I am at the bar watching with a drink in my hand and not the poor sot at the helm.

Uh, you forgot to throw in the 6 kt. cross current. You are probably right. There is no possible way the IPS drives could handle the wind. .....and then throw in the current. Sounds like Regal needs to go back to the drawing board. What the heck were they thinking.

I don't know the limits on cross control capability on IPS, but I do know that the wind on the bow won't be a problem.

I've read every article I can find on the system (and Zeus), and it's quite impressive. Picture two stern drives coming out of the bottom of the back of the boat. Each rotates independently. They can swing toward the centerline a given amount (15 degrees?) and away a greater amount (30 degrees?). Picture a hull oriented with the bow up on this screen. Wind is blowing across the port bow. The port drive would be angled out (port) and the prop would be spinning in reverse to pull the port to stern. The stbd drive would be angled out and spinning forward pushing the stbd forward. The wind would be attempting to rotate the boat stbd, and move it stbd. The RPM of the engines can increase to upwards of 1500. With the highly sensitive position/orientation stabilization system (my own words), the boat will hold its position fast.

Move the joystick and let the computers do the calculations to get the rotation/orientation and movement you desire. It works. I would rather have IPS/Zeus than a hull full of thrusters.

The boat turns sharper at speed (50%), has the efficiency of a stern drive or better, allows you to build with smaller engines with greater speed, quicker planing, greater efficiency, more room, lower initial purchase price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lower maintenance costs, lower bottom maintenance costs, lower damage repair costs, easier docking... I'm not sold, but looking seriously (lie - I'm sold, but unable to move up until this has been marketed for a while and available used).

Go to this website and pick a category on the left, then pick a topic on the right.
