Has anyone recharged the refrigerators on boat? They seem to be getting a little warmer this season than last year. Because I KNOW I'm not upgrading them this season lol. Can they even be recharged?

Not really, They have no service ports like your home system which drives the cost up and you'd be shocked at the cost of Freon anyway. Best you can typically do is make sure the exterior coils either on the back or under the unit are clean any dust/dirt build up. Replaced one two years ago and if failed and was replace a month ago. New units are R131A which operate at higher pressures with more greater leakage issues.

A guy at our marina has 2004 380DA. Last year it wasn't cold enough. A repair guy came to look and it and said the systems are generally not able to be recharged, but his had a fitting to recharge on it. So apparently someone had added the fitting and recharged it before.

If you know an Heating and cooling guy the can install a hot tap into the line to charge it.

+1

Beyond that, how much do you want to spend. Personally, when my 12/120 unit goes, it's being replaced with a $150 120VAC dorm fridge. I'm normally running my gennie anyhow. In the early spring and late fall I'll throw in a half pound of dry ice or a chunk of Pykrete.

Hmmm interesting on the hot tap! I'll ask around. If anything we use it 24/7 on and off the hook so I'll look up the replacements. I'm sure since cira 2000 the technology has to be better by now.

Had mine recharged after a hot tap was installed for any future issues. Seemed to be a simple task and not expensive. That was 2 years ago and all is well.

Sweet I'm all over it, thanks.
