Hi. My oil in both Qsb 5.9 engines is dark in color. Plan on a full oil change at end of Oct. but was thinking of draining a gal or so out and replacing with fresh oil until end of season to freshen. Is there any reason not to do this?

Oil turns dark. Perhaps do an oil analysis first to see if there is anything that warrants immediate action. Did last year’s analysis show any abnormalities? Your actions today might affect the results in October’s sample.

All this assumes you do regular oil analysis.

I wouldn't fool with it unless you are at or well past your recommended oil change interval, either hours or calendar wise. Even if I was close or marginally over, I think I'd finish the season and do the normal end of season oil change once, get a good oil analysis and call it a season.
