reel strap

Simple question. I replaced the reel strap on my Shorelander trailer and failed to remember if the winch strap goes over the reel or under the reel. Think of a roll of toilet paper. How is it mounted or does it matter?

Mine have always been over the top.

Over the top. Bonus points if you make one of those little triangles out of the strap end.
