There have been rumors on this site in the past of a redesigned 290 for 2009. The conventional wisdom has been that the 280 will be phased out, the controversial cockpit configuration of the current 290 reconfigured and the best of both models combined into a new boat. I have also heard the "new" 290 will have a wider beam and larger fuel capacity (See Amberjack). Yesterday, for the first time my dealer confirmed they too had heard these rumors, understood from SR it may be a late 2009 model (January) but knew little else. I thought I'd through it out to this forum to determine what anyone else had heard. I'm close to purchasing a 2008 290 but might be willing to wait if a "new and improved" model was just around the corner.

I haven't caught wind of a new 290 on the horizon for '09, but who knows. I have heard that there will be a new Pachanga out fairly soon, but they will be very hard to get your hands on. I will do some asking around the dealership and see if I can find out for ya, usually if this was the case we would have heard something by now.

Hi Mark,
I was talking to my MM guy a month ago about the 280/290. He didn't know if they were getting rid of the 280 quite yet.

How much wider would the beam be? Just wondering how much more room you'd get and how much more fuel consumption it will be.

I'm not sure of the specifications but note the beam on the 290 Amberjack is 10'6" while that of the 310 is 10'5". I'm guessing it would be in that range and probably closer to 10'. That is, however, pure speculation on my part.

I do sign work for my SeaRay dealer and talk about business a bunch when I am in his showroom, he told me same thing. A new 290 is coming out that will combine the best of the 280 and 290. We didn't talk dates but he did confirm a new290 is on the way.

As a proud SeaRay s'man for over 11 years I will say that there is always an undercurrent of design and development going on at SeaRay. When the 290 Sundancer was introduced it was/is by far the best interior/cockpit layout ever in this size boat. The large convertible bed/couch in the forward section is very comfortable. As for the cockpit the seats may change but the seating cant get much more comfy. Seldom do we see one particular hull/mold stay in production more than 3-5 seasons. Much like everything else you can buy...technology improves or changes eventually...buy the one you like, enjoy it

+1 on the Pachanga, Ive heard it will be the 22' version, and it will be formally announced in September.
