I saw something in another post about red cockpit lights for nighttime operation. I went looking around and came across these lights:

  • red, white, and blue in same fixture
  • uses EXISTING wiring
  • dimming feature

So, if I read their literature correctly, I can install these lights, change them from red to white to blue, and dim them, using the existing switch and wiring. I'll let you know after I get them if they live up to their hype.

I know one of the guys on the 360 thread had the tri-colored lights...not sure if he could dim them though??

I need to start replacing my cabin lights, let me know how they work.

All new fixtures or just retrofit lamps?

I have these metal looking painted plastic 12v 10w halogen lamps in the ceiling of the cabin that I want to replace. The covers are just getting old but they don't make them anymore so I have to replace the whole fixture.

I purchased something similar:

i2Systems A3120 - Apeiron Tri-Light - Hardtop / Arch Light

Which you can find with a simple search. They are great, fit the existing cutouts with no more than a bit of grinding on some.

Mine did have a software bug (in a LIGHT, for pity's sake). Colors change each time you turn on power in quick succession. So you would think red, blue, white, right?

But the ones I got were nothing, red, blue, white. Dumb, but I can live with it. Hopefully fixed by now. The multicolor lights are great and yes, the red does help preserve night vision.

About $90 each.

I wasn't going to screw with changing festoons to LEDS so I passed on the marinebeam part.

Change out the whole fixture.

I've got the i2systems lights in my arch and love them. Very easy install, and just bright enough.
