Does anyone have any other experience/recommendations for non Raymarine cameras? I'm looking at adding a couple to my E120 set-up. The RM cameras are expensive (I know this is boating). I saw "Speco" recommended in another thread. If you have experience with good quality alternative brands, I'd like to hear from you.

Thanks,
Paul

I have used this company for CCTV and video security. Browse through their website, you may find something. http://www.scdlink.com/

i use some handheld versions.

I boat at night alot, but never alone. Anyway, i use my two E-120s for gps and radar and depth and I have someone always using the NVGs and talking to me about the view

i guess i should have responded with, Have you looked at handheld NVGs?

Sorry John, I should have been clearer. I'm looking an IR camera for the engine room and other cameras for docking and the saloon.

I have used a couple different models. Garmin just came out with a small camera, I got one and put it in my cockpit. I will be swapping out the other three (engine room included) on my boat this spring. Easy to install, compact, and the picture was great. Here is a link to the model:

You can get cameras from this website that are 1/2 the price, maybe even less expensive than that. Some of them even look like the same camera if not better than the ones used by Raymarine, just have to work on a mounting system for them.

I have had good experience with the speco equivalent to the Raymarine CAM100. Just check the specs. to make sure that they are the same. Also, the Raymarine camera has both power and video running in the same cable. The Speco needs two cables.

I did have a similar camera outside. It did not last 8 months, half of that time was in fresh water. I have since learned to only go with marine grade camera's. I do know you can always get something for less money, but you get what you pay for.

I agree with the "get what you pay for" sentiment... to an extent.
Anything with the word "marine" attached to it means double or triple the price- sometimes for no reason.
In an ER application, out of the elements, the cheap cameras hold up just fine. At least, mine has...

I work for a security company and Speco is a brand that we use. They also have an Intensifier camera that does not utilize IR therefore you can get color at night. Another IR camera that I would recommend is the Bosch Extreme series. Both perform well and we have had no great service issues. PM me if you want specific part numbers.

Thanks all. I have a few leads to investigate.

I am looking to add a few cameras to my engine room, would have helped out when my trans cooler bracket broke and flooded the engine room.

I looked a Speco's web site and I like the CVC638170 because of its size and 2.2 mm lens, I imagine that will show a lot more area in this small space.

Does anyone know of something similar with IR illuminators, I'd hate to have to keep the bilge lights on...

Although I guess I could mount separate illuminators.

Costco has a little kit for $300 that comes with a couple of wireless IR cameras and a monitor. Sure would be an easy install, I don't know where I'd mount the monitor, but it has a video out.

Thanks for the input.

I have a couple of those Costco Cameras at home. Not sure how they'd work though though a couple of layers of fibreglas.
