We are doing a cruise of the lower Chesapeake Bay the week of the 4th, and would like to anchor out somewhere decent to watch fireworks on the 4th. My initial thought was the Yorktown show, but looking at the situation around there makes me think it will be VERY crowded on the water, and there don't seem to be a ton of good anchorages nearby. I need to see if there are any slips or moorings available at Yorktown, but I doubt there will be this late.

VA Beach is also putting on a show on the ocean, but I'm not sure about the anchorage situation there, either.

Any suggestions or recommendations on what show to see, and where to anchor afterwards? Ideally we would like to pick a spot and stay put all night, but I suspect that won't be practical, and we will probably have to move after the show.

Thanks!

One option is Norfolk. You can anchor in Craford Bay which is next to Tidewater Yacht Marina and across from downtown Norfolk/ Waterside park. Get there early evening and anchor out and you can spend the night. When I usd to live in Chesapeake it was a great place to catch fireworks.
