Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced GPS for boating on an inland lake in South Carolina? I don't need a lot of bells and whistles and will be mounting on my 280 DA.

Guess it depends on your budget, I had a basic Garmin 72, floating water proof gps on my 280DA, direct wired and mounted. It always worked like a charm, I believe they recently updated the model a bit also. Picked mine up with marine mount, direct wire kit and gps unit all online for just about $150. I kept the gps since it is also portable and take it with me as a backup and on vacation type ocean trips as they come up.

Garmin makes one think it is the 400 series pretty nice set up plenty of ad ons also

I'm looking for the same thing and believe I have decided on the Hummingbird 587ci- a combo gps/ fishfinder (4.5" screen) that can be had new (Ebay) for $450.

I'm not really interested in using the GPS for fishing. I want it to be able to find my way around the lake and identify hazards.

I purchased the Garmin GPSMAPS 530S for inland lakes last year from Jim at BOE, runs this site. Very easy to use and see in daylight. It has the built in inland lakes and the transducer, I wanted a separate depthfinder than the factory digital one. You can purchase the same unit with out the tranducer. Here is the link from BOE:

With fishfinder transducer:

Without:

They were listed as out of stock when I ordered it as well and Jim was able to have it drop shipped at no additional cost.

The Garmin 531/531s has come out as well, probably some upgraded form, but have not researched it to know what changes were made.
