Looking to install a depth/fish finder onto my 175 sport and would appreciate some reasonable choices.

My 2007 185 came from the factory with the hummingbird 610. I've been happy with it. I'm sure there may be a newer version of it out by now, but probably along the same lines.

Edit: Just looked it up. The latest is the hummingbird HDR 650 and it's about $100.

I've got a Hummingbird, paid around $100 for it, easy install, works well. If I were doing it again, I would spend a little more and get one with water temp also.

since the OP is in Hawaii he probably doesn't need to keep track of the water temp........

Just wondering about water temp with a through-hull transducer. I'm assuming a through-hall wouldn't measure water temp, but I just don't know. The humminbird's I mentioned use a through-hull, which makes the install much easier I'm sure.

Funny Cliff - probably need to GO to Hawaii and spend some time there to get a real feel for the water temps...will need to take your 340, the 185BR doesn't have the range.

I think a transducer with the water temp sensor is a true "thru hull" transducer, not a "shoot through the hull" transducer.

What's your budget?
For $99 you can get this.

If you spend a little more you can get one with GPS, chirp sonar, and charts.

A little more still, and you can get a larger display with a touchscreen.

That's the one I just bought, its a great deal if you want something in that class.

Have used Hummingbird and Lowrance extensively. Personal choice would be the Lowrance. A transom mounted transducer or a through hull mount will perform much better than shooting "through the hull" though it can be done and is easier. My 260DA has a Garmin GPS/fishfinder. The PO epoxied the transducer in the bilge and the depth/fishfinding part does not perform very well. Have been considering buying another transducer and mounting it on the transom. With that thought, is there anyway to remove the epoxy or the current transducer?

Thanks,
Bennett

Thanks to all so far. The Lowrance Elite-4 Chirp looks promising. West Marine has it for $299 so I guess I will look it over this week.

I have a Garmin 441s on my 175 Sport with a transom mounted sounder. I love it.
