Buddies mid 80's boat . One unit needs recharged . I'm not sure freon they were using then . Nor what they are updating with ? Any help be great

Probably r-22,hopefully the reversing valve is good and not stuck,thats an old unit.

Spoke with a MarineAir tech yesterday - same issue on one if my units - mid '80's vintage. He told me R-22 is what was used. He also gave me some rough pressure numbers to test with. I'll post them later for future reference. I plan to test and recharge tomorrow - have access to R-22 and a gauge set from work.

Here are my notes: This is for my MarineAir compact unit - circa 1983.
If your charge is correct - High side should be 150 - 160psi, low side 50-65psi.
Unfortunately the gauges I have access to are for R-134 (automotive) not R-22. But the tech is coming out next week - $100 to show up and diagnose then the weight of gas if it needs charging. Seems like a bargain to me.
