Rebuilt Engine

Just installed a rebuilt Mercruiser 350. The engine is puffing blue smoke and burning oil. Is this typical of rebuilts? Will it stop once the engine completes break in?

Any experiences w/ the issue would be appreciated.

Only on the initial start up. It's burning off the rebuild lube in the cylinders. After that it should clear right up. I'm talking a matter of minutes here. If you still using oil, you've got a problem.
