I have a mid-cabin DVD drop down TV with a separate DVD player, KEC DVC-1 in my 2004 340 Sundancer. Any disc I put in reads ‘No Disc’, anyone with similar problem?

Any suggestions other than replacing the unit? It's in a 2004 340 Dancer I bought this year but the DVD and TV were never used as all remotes and headsets were still in the plastic wrap. Suggestions appreciated.

Have you tried completely powering off the unit at the circuit breaker? I had a similar problem in my '05 320DA and i shut down the unit, powered off the circuit breaker and then powered it all back up and it worked. Might be worth a shot before you try more expensive options? Good luck.

Mike

I have not tired that but worth a try, will give it a shot and let you know.

Thanks for the info,
Harvey

I actually have the same problem on my 320. I took the KEC-1 unit out of the housing, tried shaking it, blowing on it, playing it sideways, etc. I got it to work a little, but it still consistently says no disc. I plan to replace it with the same type of unit. I know it's not the best unit, but it works (ok it did before!) and this way it fits in the housing and I dont have to cut or drill.

I looked around online and it seems KEC does not sell dedicated DVD players anymore, DVD-1, 2, and 3 have all been discontinued, probably because they were junk and couldn't read a disc? One site directs you to another unit, a MYRON & DAVIS AD212, $169. I plan to hunt around for some ratings of mobile units to see if I can find any recommendations, will let you know if I find anything worth noting.
The site is was on is here,

I'm not sure about the dimensions of this one and the KEC but I have mine home so plan on checking tonight to see how well it matches up.

Now that you mention this... When I first tried to use the DVD players after buying my boat (which sat on land for almost 1 year unused), it wouldnt read the DVD in the aft cabin. I have 2 of these units on my 320 and simply switched to the other unit to test out the TV's. I forgot about this problem until reading your post. I used the boat this weekend and both units worked without any issues. My kids were on the boat last weekend and had the TV's running for a few hours so it might be a moisture issue that cleared up after the unit warmed up. (I think that unit comes on with the TV, but not sure) Anyway its just a guess.. You said that you tried other DVD's but I would make sure that your DVD is clean.. (So that means no porn )

I actually bought one of those DVD laser reader cleaning disc just on the long shot it might help. It loaded and went throught the cleaning cycle once but still would not read a 'clean' DVD. Now it will not load and read the cleaning DVD either. Seems it must be an alignment issue with how the DVD sits in the tray. You know I didn't try a dirty DVD though, maybe I should give that a try!! :)

Yeah you can try that, but if it doesnt work, then you will REALLY be frustrated!

Gentlemen
been there done that, you can go online and contact KEC directly there is a factory repair shop in New Jersey, My aft cabin unit died this summer and they were able to repair it for 150.00 the unit in the 2004 34 is no longer available and if you were to pull it down you will see that Searay built it into the head liner a real pain in the butt. My dvd unit does play, all discs, it's the unit in the main cabin that has problems, a friend of mine had it replaced. it was easier.
I hope that helps

Not sure mine if fixable at this point, I took it apart to see what was going on with it. Seems a spring that should hold the arm that moves the laser reader across the DVD was too week and the drive gear just slipped on the bar, which also has a straight gear set arrangement. Seemed like a bad design to me, not worth fooling around with to fix.

My research showed all KEC DVD players discontinued, maybe they are doing us a favor. I want to shop around for a new unit with better reliability but have not had time.
Any recommendations on a replacement unit from another manufacture? Would like to find the same size so I won’t have to modify my cabinet.
