Hello,

I have heard about a magnetic switch on the rear door leading to the
swim platform...the switch apparently stops you
from raising the hatch if the door is closed..
Is there an actual switch? If so my switch is broken.:smt021

There is a reed switch back there. You'll see a little round button near the bottom of the door. It goes to a relay usually under the helm which connects to the power going to hatch motor. The reed switch does go bad - mine did. The relay is less likely to be the problem. The magnet is on the door, the actual reed switch is on the hull-side and will have wires attached. It's a two-piece set-up.

Cheap and easy to fix. They are the same types of switches used by home security installations for protecting doors and windows. See picture below.

Remember that the switch you need will probably be NO for normally open. When the door is closed, the switch is closed and the relay will then kick on, connecting power to the hatch.

Take a look in the door itself to make sure that the little button (the magnet - on the right in Gerry's pic) is still there? It's just pushed into a hole drilled into the edge of the door. You also need to verify that it lines up with the reed switch when you close the door.

Those 2 wires coming off of it are VERY small. Like doorbell wiring (yeah... I'm old...). On my boat, they run down into the bilge and are wire tied along the back of another harness along the inside of the hull. They've gotten in my way a couple of times while working on other things. You may want to locate and follow them just to be sure that you didn't inadvertently cut or pinch them while doing something else down there.

I just was at my boat and looked for a switch on the door...I could not see anything...Looked behind the mounting
plate for the door. I could see 2 mounting bolts but no wires going to the mounting plate....
I looked under the door from the bilge area..again I saw no wires going up towards the door area from
underneath the engine hatch.
I didn't see anything on the door itself where it rotates on the plate like any magnetic contact as above.
Could it be for 2009 they didn't use this switch??
I will be looking again just in case.

You really can't see much of anything. All that will be exposed is the little "mushroom cap" on each side.

The passive piece (the magnet - without the wires in the pic above) is just stuck into a hole drilled in the edge of the door. The reed switch will be located somewhere where the magnet will line up with it when the door is open. Yours may be set up so that the magnet lines up with the switch when the door is closed, so check it in both positions.

The first step is to find either the magnet in the edge of the door. All you can see is a small, round, white bump. It looks like someone took one of the holes out of a paper hole puncher, and stuck it to the edge of the door. Not much to see. I guess they could have gotten really fancy when they installed it by drilling the hole a little deeper, and pushing the magnet in far enough to be completely flush with the edge of the door. You might have to look really close to see it if they did that.

I just looked at the owner's manual (page 20) for your boat. There are TWO switches on your boat.

19. Engine Hatch - The engine hatch is electronically actuated by a switch on the control station starboard switch panel. Before attempting to raise or lower the hatch make sure that there are no objects that may interfere with the hatch. The starboard aft storage door and the aft cockpit wet bar cabinet door have magnetic switches which prevent the hatch from being raised or lowered if they are not closed.

I have my owners manual and I can't find anything on page 20 of my owners manual, as it is intentionally left blank..where are you seeing this?
If what your saying, that there are 2 switches, 1 for the aft cabinet and 1 for the cabinet door,..is there then 1 for
the rear door to the swim platform? This was the one that I thought would have a switch.
Thanks

I have a 330/350 sundancer but in 2009 they renamed them..hence it is a 330 sundancer ....but I see several things that are on my
boat that are not in the 330's owner's manual...I finally see the quote you referred to...I was at the boat today and looked
at the wet bar door...this door is on a piano hinge and there are absolutely no wires near it..I again looked at the rear entry door
panel....looked behind it and all I see are the two bolts that hold the hinge plate on to the fibreglass. I will get down into the bilge
to have another look for wires.
Thanks again for all your help.

Well, I have looked all over the bilge for any sign of wires coming off the rear door as well as the aft starboard door.... not to mention
the port side wet bar door...there are no wires at all connected to any of these doors.(hinges incuded)
I even left these doors open andt hatch would still liftup....Did my boat get missed????

I'm not so sure your boat is equipped with the read switch.

On certain boats such as mine - if the hatch was opened with the transom door open it would likely jamb up on the swim platform until something gave way. So the read switch prevents this from happening as the door must be in the closed position to activate the hatch.

From my observations of a google search of your boat, it would appear that your boat would not need the read switch as the door does not appear that it would foul with the swim platform or any other part of the boat when the hatch is being opened. Of course my conclusion is only based on logic.

The question is - can you operate your hatch with the transom door open?

Excellent point. The 2009 330/350 transom door does not interfere with the hatch and has no magnetic reed switch. What does have one is the fold down rumble seat on the swim platform. That must be closed and the reed switch is tied into a light at the helm as well.

I was just at the boat checking and yes, the rear rumble seat has a reed switch..my rear door if its open inwards or outwards
has clearance to open the hatch...but if it is in the closed position, it will rub against the side..
Thanks for the great help...funny how the searay manual shows a reed switch on the rear stern door....
