Real candles on Boat

Are there no Candle Safe zones and Sanctuary Marinas?

Yes. All of them have concrete slips and no flammable foam or wood blocks to worry about catching on fire.

Wow. You guys are lame. Candles and stove for me.

You should get one of those fireproof diesel boats! I don't allow candles after watching a tall pillar candle get knocked-over while burning (that, and I don't really care for candles anyway). Now if my tanks had diesel in them, I wouldn't have to worry because pillows, bedspreads, upholstery, wood trim, gelcoat, headliners, towels and dishrags on a diesel boat won't catch fire. yea-ahhhh.

The boat came with a bunch of candles. Non had ever been used. We use them on the sticky draws. Rub the edge of the candle in the area it sticks and it lubricates the slides. Seems like a good reason to have them. We have never lit them. Assume previous owner used them the same way. We also have candles in our ditch emergency bag.

Does your gas stove tend to fall over in rough seas?

I chuckled out loud. You guys are alright.

This thread has dissuaded me from upgrading to a larger Sea Ray, with all this candle, stoves, fires & stuff. All I have to worry about is methane gas coming from the head - oh and fumes from the occasional fill-up.

Hey. I never said I wasn't guilty on doing it. But, the LED candles are the way to go. My ex bought a couple of them and had them turned on in the living room. I woke up in the middle of the night to get a glass of water and saw them lit up on the bookcase. I walked over and tried to blow one out. After about 3 puffs on it, I realized it wasn't a real candle. So, the fake ones are as romantic as the real ones. Kinda liker hooters. :smt043

We used to light a small candle on the cockpit table sometimes while we were eating. Lady across the dock made a big deal of it one night - while she was grilling on her magma grill (grilling on the docks was a huge no, no at our marina). I laughed her off, we called her candle lady after that. Glad that candle wasn't lit the weekend I tried removing the fart filter (another long story), but one flush of the head that weekend would have blown the whole place up!

This candle thing couldn't have come at a better time for CSR. Portable generators had flat lined and we needed something else to take sides over. I don't think mere candles will ever reach the level of fervor the generators did but I'm hopeful!

maybe the guys that have portable genny's on the swim platform should duct tape a candle on top to help them see at night when they have to refuel the genny.....

I just have my Honda generator in my dingy (for safety) and pull it behind my boat using the power cord.

And I use a road flare duc taped to the anchor light for my anchor light.

you have got to be kidding me......you obviously don't know that a red flare is the wrong color for an anchor light......you should use something like a long lasting sparkler that gives off a white light.....or a nice scented candle....

You should have seen it when I used a roman candle.

with just me and my girlfriend onboard i never had an issue with bbq on the swim platform and candles in the cockpit . just use common sense and do not leave unattendend . btw some nice candle lights , tasty music out of the stereo and a good drink may result in a very good showdown on the v berth - try it out !

Oh the horror!!

We lost a houseboat due to fire. Burned the entire 66' long boat down to the waterline. It was not caused by a candle, but since that day we NEVER have open flames on our boat, except for gas BBQ out on pedestal on our platform.

Are we really going to resurrect this one.....can't we wait until Winter sets in?
