Reading Kohler 5E plugs

I just pulled the plugs from my 2004 5E. It had 17hrs on it when I bought it last month, and is up to 22 now. I put new Autolite 65s in it. When we run it, black soot appears on the side underneath the exhaust, and it has a whitish color to the exhaust. It runs rough for the first few minutes, and then smooths out and purrs the rest of the time. I'm no expert, but I don't think the plugs look all that bad. It had been running on some pretty old gas, that I put some SeaFoam and octane boost in. I just put some fresh gas in the tank.

Any idea what could be causing the issues I'm having?

Did you gap them correctly?

Yes, the new ones I gapped at 0.025"
