Hey.
So sorry … My last logon was 6/24….wow… I’ve been working like crazy…. I do Oracle database work and we just did an upgrade from 9i to 11g… it was nasty….. Club Sea Ray is blocked by my company…. anyway…
Yes, the red hose did come in two parts, I had bought a new transom assembly as well.. from a local vendor …brand new $1700. It came with 2 adapters to connect the inlet hose to the inner transom plate. One was the one I was used to with the barbs for a normal hose, and one was the quick connect style. Once I saw the engine came with the quick connect hose, I installed that one. Then was getting that feeling wondering if I was comfortable with it… got reassurance from the mechanic who said it is fine this way …it was just new and I wasn’t used to it… I went with it.. Now that I see it running …so far so good! I can get you the part number if you wish of the quick connect for the transom plate … not sure of the timing of this note...cuz work was getting in the way of my boating live… again sorry to leave you hang’n… you might already be floating…
I did buy a flush kit from Defender (I’m always there…live close to it.. www.defender.com) part # 301294 with the same thought in mind, that since the inlet hose is in 2 parts it would be perfect for a flush kit. I haven’t installed it… I need to still buy a shutoff or ball valve and perhaps a 90 degree hose connector… for now I just wanted the thing working. But where that connection falls, it looks like it will work well with the kit… still have not taking any pictures of the engine yet.
The engine was finally fixed on 7/1. Eric, my mechanic, and the shop where I bought the engine from, had to do the paper work with the warranty, and did …whatever else they needed to do… to get to the point where they could log a problem ticket with a tech who works at Mercruiser and start troubleshooting the issue with them. (…that only took 2 weeks… I’m not bitter….) they gave Eric a few things to look at. One of the things was a plate which the IAC is connected to. This plate was suppose to be perfectly flat, but was off by 2,000 (of an inch perhaps…didn’t really follow) and was causing the whistle. Eric had a machine shop he knows flatten it to within specs, got 2 new gaskets and hooked it back up. It works like a champ now.
We took it out over the 4th of July weekend… went to Napatree Point (Watch Hill Rhode Island) for a couple of days… (And yes worked called me while I was there…) The engine is running great. It’s so quite compared to the 454; I’m not yelling at my guests while at cruising speed. I’ve been babying it… not going too crazy…it’s still in the break in period…. I did get up to 4200 RPM … and hit like 32 knots or so.. then brought it back down to about 3200 RPM.. 22 knots… I’m hearing that “guardian” will kick in if I get close to 5000 RPM which I guess is red line. Won’t be pushing it that hard any time soon….
Hope your install is going well!
