Re-launch of all new Sea Ray Owners Club - introduction and explanation

I met Tim Schiek, President of Sea Ray Boats at the Seattle boat show last night.... Great guy, very approachable and open minded. I shared with him a little about CSR and more specifically the SR owners website. My personal opinion that I think it's great and the buzz for the most on CSR is that it's being well received here. They had the new 510 Fly and would love one for Christmas....

I'm glad it's headed in the right direction. We know it's important and we know that bringing better organization would be welcomed by a lot of folks. To level set expectations, we've generally allocated all the resources we can to this particular portion of the project for the immediate future. We literally cleaned up decades worth of neglected documents. We started with hard drives containing literally THOUSANDS of documents with zero metatags or descriptions and meaningless names like "1C1_23_74DEJAKVT7F.pdf" Everything about this database is built from the ground up. I have no doubt that there are errors and omissions, but it's better than we've done before and one of the largest data libraries available from an OEM in the marine industry (and better than what you can get directly from the OEM in many industries!). We can keep working on this over time and we can work toward ways for user submissions where it makes sense, too.

Matt,

Based on this statement, I would expect the availability of documents to increase? Right now, the only documents available are the Parts Manual, Spec Sheet and Prop Matrix. On the old site, I was able to get the Owner's manual, and other related documents. Thankfully, I downloaded them for availability. I do agree the naming conventions of these documents left a lot to be desired. While they are being cleaned up, is there any way to make them available on the new SROC site?

Also, the search box seems to match an awful lot of irrelevant documents. Can it be implemented to use & as well as quotes? If I type in 98 270SDA the first result is Component Manual: U-LINE ICEMAKER BI98-BI95-SP18 OWNERS MANUAL. Obviously, this is NOT for my boat. As the number of documents increase, this problem will get much worse. In the same vein, it would be nice to know how many pages of responsive documents are available.

Also, I got my first digest, and when you click on a link, you have to log in to view the link. Is there any way the links in your email can automatically log you in to view the link?

I do like the way Sea Ray is going with the new club. I look forward to seeing how it grows. :smt038
