I just thought I would share the results of having my seat bottoms in the cockpit re-dyed this past WE....the vinyl is in good condition....it was just stained from years of use.....the seat backs are still in good condition.....I tried many different cleaners and cleaning methods but just could not remove the stains.....the PO of my boat did little to maintain the upholstery throughout the boat.....

I forgot to take a 'before' pic of the seat below but it was covered with mold/mildew spots....it resembled 'leopard spots'.....I had three seat bottoms in the cockpit re-dyed.....the two long seats in the aft seating and the double wide passenger front seat (pictured below).....the passenger seat was the worst of the three.....

I used this mobile company to do the work (no affiliation)..... http://www.wecanfixthat.com/
apparently they have many representatives across the nation.....the guy showed up in a van and re-dyed the seats in the parking lot of our marina in just a couple hours.....

the results were excellent....the cost was around what recovering just one seat bottom would have cost...the color of the re-dyed bottoms is a perfect match to the seat backs....i can't speak to longevity yet but he claims the dye should last a very long time.....and he said the mold stains should not come through the dye.....he told me the majority of his work in this area is on boats but he can make many other type repairs to upholstery and carpet.....

please excuse the dirty floor and the clutter....I am in the middle of a major stereo upgrade and took the pic before I cleaned things up....

WOW - Looks great!

Did you get any sense as to how they would deal with any contrasting color (gold) piping or embroidering that are in the seats?

the two rear seat bottoms have gold piping...he just taped it off before he sprayed on the dye......no overspray on it at all...not sure about an embroidered emblem but I would bet they have a way to handle that as well......

Did you happen to ask about changing the color of piping? We have the gold and I would really love to have it changed to black to match the new canvas (or even white, but I doubt they can go lighter?)

No worries, just sent them a note. They have a location about an hour east of me so I could easily bring the cushions to them. I'll report back when I have an idea of cost for anyone else interested.

Cliff, that looks great. What a nice "spruce up" on your boat.

thanks....one of the 'eye sores' on my boat when I bought it 2.5 years ago was the stained seat bottoms.........I am a little 'anal' about stuff like this ( :smt100 ) so it has been bothering me for a long time.....

I talked to the guy about changing the color of the piping and the embroidered logos.....the piping color can easily be changed but they cannot change the embroidered logo color.....i wonder if you could use a small fine tip paint brush (like ones used to paint model cars) and black paint/dye to change the color of the logo.....or maybe even use a black permanent magic marker.....

Revisiting old thread. How have the re-dyed seats held up after 2 seasons?
