Hope this doesn't sound dumb, but I am new to all this radar stuff. My unit does seem to work, I noticed a door with a slot for a memory card or something close. What would that be used for?

Your unit is a combo chart plotter and radar display. The slots are for cmap cards which contain the navigation data you would need to set routes over the water and follow them. Cmap cards carry the data for a predefined region. So the card(s) you need depends on where you will use the boat.

Ok, sounds logical. We are on a lake only 32 miles long so I kind of know it by now.
It will be nice to have radar at night if needed as it does get dark without a moon...everything including the islands blend in together.
