Does anyone out there with some expertise know if the SeaTalk HS cable is the same as a Cat5 or Cat6 network cable? Crossover cable maybe?

Seems a shame to shell out the big bucks for the Raymarine cable if regular network cable will do...

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

For the record, if connecting directly from one component to the display unit, a regular CAT5 crossover cable will work perfectly.

$15.00 instead of $200 TYVM.

I just ran my Cat 5 for my radar. it came with a shelded cat 5 cable. I would use what the manufacture said.

For my radar, I will definitely be running the supplied Raymarine cable.

For my depth sounder module however, I ran a piece of standard CAT5 crossover cable.

There is zero chance that this gets wet, short of the boat sinking, and in that scenario, I could care less if it is watertight.

Just my input, i believe that the standard cat 5 cable would work but the smarter choice since we are dealing with boats and water would to go with some outdoor cable something that will last a few more years with out ware and tare and be immune to any hydration.

Again...

Not really concerned about water intrusion in my particular application.

Results may vary with YOUR application.

I'm not advocating anyone do anything. Just saying that regular CAT5 crossover cable functions fine.
