I have the original Ray 240 VHF radio that came with the boat from the factory. This morning I couldn't raise anyone on the radio so I unplugged the handset and then plugged it back in. I then got the message "Cannot connect with base station" When I tested it on my friends Ray 240 I had the usual display. I didn't try to transmit because he has an antennae problem. Has anyone seen this error message or something similar? What's the likely problem and solution. Is it time for a new VHF? If so handheld, direct replacement or something else?

The 240 has another plug for a second station, what happens if you plug your mike in there?

Good question, I'll have to check. I'm starting to think I had a lightning strike Friday night. My DSM 300 is messed up, the salon TV was fried, one of my KVH Satellite receivers is messed up, the E-120 network switch isn't communicating....and the VHF. I wonder if a lightning strike can cause partial electronics damage and leave other components unharmed?

Can't personally speak to the marine part, but at home it did. Funny part was, about a third of my electronics were Toshiba brand and all of them fried. Every Toshiba TV, DVD, CD all failed to some degree, no other brand failed. I obviously won't buy that brand again. MM
