I have Raymarine electronics, 2 x E120's, HSB2, etc. with a Raymarine HD Open array radar. From time to time, I can't get the radar to come on and the only solution is to climb up on the hardtop and do a cold reboot by flipping the switch on the back of the unit. This is a pain in the hoohoo and somewhat less than safe if I'm in need of the unit while underway.

Anyone know why this is happening and how to correct? Do I need to hardwire in a switch on the helm, or is there something else going on here?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

How about a software update downloaded from Raymarine site? Sometimes that will fix an issue but not sure why this is happening.

I had all the software upgraded in the spring of '10 in an attempt to deal with a depth sounder issue. Radar had same foibles before and after.

I would open the unit up (the array) and check the connections. The connections go into a crappy terminal block that is no where near water proof or corrosion resistant. Any corrosion on those wires will send the unit flaky... check the power connectors as well.

Thanks Gary. I'll check that out.

Occasionally, mine will connectivity with the E-120's which requires a re-boot of the E-120's (Once every 6 months or so). Have you tried to reboot them (probably have, but, just curious).

John, what do you mean by a reboot of the E-120's?

I'm with Gary on this one. Before doing anything software related I would check all the connections (on the radar and MFD plug).
