I continue to get a "needs calibration" message on a Raymarine RL80C. Seems to lose compass calibrations on each restart. Went through the process a couple of times but want to fix. Ideas?

I had a similar problem with it but mine would lose position and get "no fix". The remedy was to put a switch in line with the power wire that runs up to the GPS sensor. Each time I start the boat, I flip the switch to power up. I have had not had problem since. Apparently if there is power to the antenna all the time, it goes into a buffer overrun. You can try this or shut your house batteries on/off each time. I know you have a calibration issue, but maybe this would work for you. Might be worth a try.

RE: Raymarine GPS..."NO FIX"
Update to the NO FIX saga - Raymarine tech support told me to just turn off power to the antenna because constant power supply to it would cause a buffer overrun. I did and it fixed it. Regained fix in less than 5 seconds.

I guess I'll either be adding a switch to cut power to the Raymarine junction box or just be less lazy and turn off the house battery switch every day.
