I've got an old RAY53 that I'm looking to upgrade (as part of a massive electronics upgrade) - any suggestions on what radios are better than others, or what is a direct fit? Can't seem to find any exact replacement.

What electronics are you replacing? What brand are you planning to use for your upgrade? I would recommend sticking with just 1 brand of electronics. Garmin, Simrad, & Raymarine are all good, but stick, with one.

I prefer Garmin, but have used Raymarine and it is good also.

All the new gear wil be Raymarine.

psubill78,
i too am looking at upgrading the electronics, what i can see and have read for the last few days i agree with av8ingtom, stay with Raymarine since your other electronics are going to be Raymarine, the new VHF's are pretty nice depending upon what you are looking for in the unit the RAY60 looks good, and we most likely fit in the old spot. I am not an expert like many of these other guys, I just trying to keep things as simple as possible. I looking at the first step of the upgrade and that the VHF, all because my mic, and cord as shot. I am going to call Raymarine tomorrow to see if i can purchase just the mic and cord for the 215DSC, but part of me doesn't want to spend say $70 to $100 on these parts and be a 1/3 away from a brand new unit. Good luck please post your experiences love to learn what others are doing. Steve

I don't think you can. At least not from Raymarine. You can from eBay, however.
