When I cruised on the 340, all of the nav stuff lined up. On the new boat they dont. I can see a marker in the distance, but if I put the boat's course line on it, it drifts off to the side. Im concerned that when I cross to Tampa that I wont drive a straight line. Ive tried using all true, all mag... Ideas?

what charts are you using? different manufactures and chart makers sometimes use different Datum.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datum_(geodesy)

"Users of GPS are cautioned that they must always check the datum of the maps they are using. To correctly enter, display, and to store map related map coordinates, the datum of the map must be entered into the GPS map datum field."

Dont know. Will check in AM. What does that mean?

It's the reference that they base their measurements on. You have to make sure the charts and unit are referencing the same thing.

Not sure if this is your problem, but it's something to check to make sure.

Will do.

John

I'll be on my boat tomorrow and can give you all the settings if you'd like. PM me if you want my cell number.

It sounds like to me that you need to swing the compass and do a radar bearing alignment. Procedure is in the E-120 Installation Manual.

The heading (HDG) or bearing (BRG) (direction boat's pointed) vs. the course of ground (COG) would vary, or seem to drift based on wind and current effect on the boat. Your 44 has much more "sail area" than your 340, so you will notice it more.

You should be able to toggle display between COG and BRG. Steer to COG and you will maintain your target.

As said before, it might be as simple as swinging the fluxgate compass through your autopilot or setting the E-120 chart sync. There is a procedure in the autopilot manual and it involves moving the boat in two slow circles called Compass Calibration. At least that's how my Ray ST7001+ works. Also Synchronize your radar with the chart by going to "Presentation", "Chart Mode and Orientation", and "Chart Sync" set to "RDR".
Hope that helps. (I had a similar issue.)
James

Thanks to everyone. Got really busy polishing 100% of the eisenglass today for the first time ever. Looks awesome, except where the dealer grossly mishandled it. Got to go to work tomorrow, but will definitely keep this thread in mind for when I get back.

Thanks again.

John, As I'm sitting here doing nothing .... What the heck happened to your sig pics ??
